Sounds like an interesting talk indeed. The curious thing that's happened is that search algorithms that have succeeded are the ones that have learned to OVERCOME the dearth and the misleading nature of meta information. Google pretty much ignores meta tags in ranking relevance of a website, and for a good reason - instead of enriching the quality of information, too many web publishers use meta information to draw traffic - at the expense of accuracy.
