I'm one of those that puts quite a bit of faith in technology, but not with the idea, "They'll never be able to track what we're doing." Instead the benefit is, once consumers have new applications, they're unwilling to give them up. The result is real pressure on the political process. Tivo and TivoToGo are going to destroy broadcasting as we know it, but by the time the broadcasters figure it out, they won't be politically able to shut it down. Meanwhile, it may take years, even decades, but I'm confident intellectual property laws will become more consumer friendly as the younger file-sharing and blogging crowd matures.
